The First Anchorage Teddy Bear Picnic Kicked off in concert with Ted Steven’s Day, on July 23, at Cuddy Midtown Park. The initiative spearheaded by the Anchorage Park Foundation, The Arc of Anchorage, Ted Stevens Foundation, Anchorage Parks & Recreation, Alaska Health and Disability Program, Governor’s Council on Disabilities & Special Education, Parks For All, and Healthy Futures invited a number of organizations to join in planning and promoting an event to celebrate and promote awareness of inclusive play. EATA brought Cheeseburger out to the event and talked about equine assisted therapy. Mascots from the Alaska Zoo, Fur Rondy, Bear Valley Elmentary, Nordic Ski Association, Smokey the Bear, and one Disney Princess attended the event. A disability obstacle course, a bounce house, and Challenge Alaska brought adaptive equipment to check-out. Tastee Freez donated ice cream and there was a parade around the lake! The Anchorage Teddy Bear Picnic is also sponsored by the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association.
It was a day filled with fun, imagination, and the exploration of a world full of potential for kids and teddies of all abilities. Get involved next year by sending me message and letting us know you are interesting in continuing this great event!
